Neurodivergent Theatre Group’s Inspiring Panto: ‘The Nativity and the Stolen Christmas Elves’!

A unique theatre group in King’s Lynn, comprising mostly young individuals with neurodivergent conditions like ADHD and autism, is presenting its inaugural pantomime. The Nativity and the Stolen Christmas Elves production, staged at Springwood High School, is the brainchild of Jordan Winn, a 24-year-old who founded the Why Not Us Theatre Company after facing challenges in school and limited creative opportunities. Winn’s pantomime is a creative twist on the popular Nativity! film, emphasizing the theme of understanding and inclusivity. He believes it’s the only theatre company in the East of England dedicated to inclusivity, addressing the often-marginalized experiences of neurodivergent individuals in both education and the performing arts. The cast includes teacher Brian Reeve-Hayes, who, like Winn, has an autism diagnosis. Reeve-Hayes finds the production distinct from previous school plays, highlighting the group’s autonomy and the joy of seeing neurodivergent individuals shine on stage and behind the scenes. The group’s 30-strong cast and crew will unveil their creation on Saturday, aiming to spread awareness about neurodivergence and the importance of understanding and inclusion.
