Ghana’s Climate Action: Unveiling the Practice and Innovation Exchange at COP30

Ghana’s Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, Issifu Seidu, has pledged the nation’s dedication to tangible climate action at the COP30 summit in Brazil. During a side event focused on practical solutions in climate-vulnerable countries, Seidu emphasized Ghana’s role as the host of the CVF V20 Secretariat. He highlighted the ongoing refinement of the Ghana Climate Prosperity Plan, which aims to align the country with the 1.5-degree Celsius target set by the Paris Agreement while leveraging the decreasing costs of renewable energy, transport, and energy efficiency solutions. A key component of this plan is the introduction of a Practice and Innovation Exchange, a platform designed to facilitate knowledge-sharing, program collaboration, and business model exchange among members in a secure environment. This initiative aims to empower governments, small businesses, and investors by reducing costs, building capacity, and unlocking capital. Seidu also underscored Ghana’s efforts to engage domestic and regional private sector partners through equity support and project preparation assistance, particularly focusing on the most vulnerable communities. Ghana’s commitment to country-led and direct access approaches, as well as its potential to host a regional Green Climate Fund office in Accra, was also noted. Seidu expressed gratitude to Bangladesh, Bhutan, The Gambia, Jamaica, and Haiti for their contributions and reiterated Ghana’s dedication through the CVF V20 Troika to coordinate efforts, mobilize fair finance, and drive on-the-ground delivery.
